eLearning in Medicine

In general, eLearning includes all forms of learning supported by electronic media. These learning techniques are especially attractive in medical education. „Virtual patients“ enable a student to perform practical training and further education. Like in a flight simulator, doctors-to-be can train in a virtual clinic. The several times prizewinning and by this researcharea developed CAMPUS Software is such a realistic, interactive, case-based multimedia learning solution. The Researcharea led by Prof Dr. Martin Haag cooperates very tight with the Center for Learning Technology in the german research center for artifical intelligence.You can find an overview about the projects of the research area eLearning in medicine here. Health Economics

Health economics & outcomes research (HEOR) for new medication increasingly gains in importance for the actors in the German health care system, as in the meantime it is regulated by law. Health economic analyses need reliable forecasting methods to assess future outcomes of health decisions. Therefore, we need computer simulation models to predict future disease progress and its costs. The PROSIT Disease Modelling Community develops these simulation models and takes health economic outcomes research to the next level, as the development has never been so transparent and comprehensible. Business Processes

Controlling and optimization of processes in health care rapidly gained increasing importance within the last years. Areas of application range from nursing services over medical guidelines and clinical pathways to logistic and economic support processes. Consumer Health Informatics

Consumer health informatics is a quite young research area. While classic health informatics addresses professional staff in the health care sector, consumer health informatics targets the informed patient, who informs himself about potential disease patterns and disease progress. How can such new information systems be developed? What are characteristic use cases?
